WHY WE SHOULD TAKE MORE PHOTOS - AS MANY AND AS OFTEN AS WE CAN.

Photography is part of my creative expression, Why we should take more photos - as many and as often as we can!

What did you do today?

If I said to you, take a couple of second to think about your day, then tell me. What would your answer be?

You might give me a few headlines from your day, perhaps that you went to work and popped into Tesco on the way home to grab some bits for dinner.

That might be a pretty standard day for you, part of your daily routine. So you may not think that ‘much’ happened. We can easily become stuck in our daily routines and miss how we grow, develop and progress as individuals.

That’s where photography is brilliant. It not only captures precious moments in our lives but also shows us how we’ve grown. You could look back at a photo of yourself from 5 years ago, and you might notice how young you used to look, but I’d prefer to think of it in terms of look how far you’ve come. Think about all the things that have happened in those 5 years that have helped shape who you are and get you to where you are today. All the things that might have seemed like a disappointment or set back, but have in fact, been opportunities to learn! How would we learn anything about ourselves if we didn’t face the odd challenge? How would we learn to appreciate the special times if we only experienced happiness?

Life is filled with hundreds of lesson, which is why I think it’s important to see how we get through them.

Photos not only capture images but also our feelings. Whether that is love, happiness, or sadness, I love looking back at a photo and re-feeling those same emotions that I felt at the time. You know it was real. It actually happened. The day you married the love of your life, your graduation, your first car, your travels, your children walking for the first time, the inside jokes with your family, or all the embarrassing dancing or singing. Or perhaps the pictures remind you of a friend you’ve not seen in a while, a relative you’ve not spoken to for ages, or even a loved one who has passed.

Whatever it is, your pictures and videos will always be there, even if the people in them aren’t.

Along with taking pictures every day, I also believe you should hang on to all of the pictures you take. Every picture is a part of you. It tells your story of who you once were, leading to the person you have become.

Will you have to go through things in life that are hard. There will be things that test you and will make you feel like you want to start all over again. If you have pictures of these moments or pictures that remind you of these moments, your initial reaction when you see them might be to delete them. But I’d urge you not to delete them. I’m not saying you should look at them every day, but by keeping them, you will learn to embrace that things didn’t go so well and know that you got through it, and here you are standing with courage, fighting to be a better version of YOU. This picture is just a step on a much longer road that leads to who you are supposed to be.

We cannot change who we once were, or the feelings we felt, but we can look forward and know that something bigger and better is just around the corner.

Never stop taking photos and videos, and don’t be sad when looking back at old pictures. They are memories, and memories are a part of life. And life was made for living.
